On January 24th, We celebrated the coordinators and committees who work so hard to make each year’s campaign a success! This was our way of saying THANK YOU! Below are this year's award winners:
Campaign Coordinator or Committee of the Year
Donmienne Leung & Mike Saude – Eli Lilly: Consistently increased campaign and creates engagement. Connects with culture and spirit of volunteerism. Facilitates relationship with CEO. Live United all year long advocate. Donmienne and Mike have engaged their colleagues in Living United all year long through the campaign, educational meetings, and community conversations. The campaign has consistently increased and Eli Lilly is now anticipated to be our biggest biotech campaign! Both Donmienne & Mike have a pulse on the generous culture at Eli Lilly and have created events and engagement strategies that truly connect with their colleagues.
Best Leadership Campaign
LaDonna Bond - Geico: Separate dedicated leadership campaign that increased leadership donors from 4 to 33. LaDonna presented at the leadership meeting and challenged all her colleagues to become leadership donors. She said to expect that she personally was going to come to them and ask them to give on a leadership level. She taped into the competitive spirit at Geico. Because at Geico, they don’t have “chicken goals” (cluck the chicken). And the leadership results of this campaign show that!
The RUM Award
Target stores: 93% of dollars raised are RUM (Resources Under Management) dollars! Employees truly believe in the UW work and promote it wholeheartedly. We thank you Target Team members for truly believing in the work United Way does.
Best Special Event
Nordstrom Rack Plaza Bonita: Created a hilarious campaign song called Donate Maybe set to the music of the song Call Me Maybe. Four employees performed the song and act at the campaign kickoff. An employee gave a testimonial at the kickoff on how she had overcome being homeless.
Honorary United Way Employee
Joe Mishriki – Wells Fargo: Joe is a member of the Board of Directors and the Campaign Cabinet. He speaks to the benefits of undesignated giving to UWSD and is truly passionate about the San Diego Community. Joe also engages in volunteer opportunities with UWSD. Thank you Joe for Living United!
Rookie of the Year
Amanda Vasquez – Center for Creative Leadership. Working with her “veteran” co-coordinator, Amanda worked diligently to expand the campaign in fun and innovative ways. Events included potlucks, food auctions, a wine down, a Change for Change jar, a United Way breakfast, an ice cream social and more. She instilled excitement in everyone at the Center for Creative Leadership prompting tremendous engagement and fun throughout the campaign. The result? A more than 58% increase in giving!
Lifetime Achievement Award
Renee Jennings - Nordstrom Fashion Valley: Renee has been involved with running a nationally leading store for almost 21 years! Each year she reinvigorates the campaign with fresh, fun, and heartfelt speakers and events. She benefitted from services herself when she lost her home during the 2004 fires and knows the true meaning of a community coming together to support one another. She has been amazing advocate each year and supports her team to lead a stellar campaign.
