Phoenix says they did. Atlantic Cities recently reported that "Phoenix has effectively ended chronic veteran homelessness..." The city’s proud mayor says that all 222 of its homeless veterans — men and women who have lived on the street for over a year — now have a roof over their heads. How did they do it? By "prioritizing housing first, then wrapping other services around it," a national best practice for addressing homelessness that San Diego also supports.
“San Diego is next!” says Jennifer LeSar of LeSar Development, United Way’s lead partner on ending chronic homelessness in our region. “Efforts are underway in San Diego to grow our permanent supportive housing stock and undertake similar efforts as Phoenix to end homelessness.” Read more about our work.
