Governor Jerry Brown in San Diego
Governor Jerry Brown Jr. travelled to San Diego last Friday to sign the 2014-15 $154.6 billion state budget into law. The budget includes much-needed forward movement in the affordable housing sector, early learning expansion, and CalWORKS grant increases. The Governor praised Assembly Speaker Toni Atkins, D-San Diego, and Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, (pictured) for participating in a successful give-and-take process that was fair to all parties involved.
"It's a happy day in California when we get a budget on time. We can be proud of the fact that our government is working for you," said Brown. Speaker Atkins said that the budget included investments that will make a lot of people's lives better. "No budget is perfect, and no one got everything they wanted," Atkins said. "But with this budget that ensures stability and expands opportunity, we have the chance to put the Great Recession even further behind us."
