Join United Way for a week of action to raise awareness and build support for one of our nation's most effective pro-work, anti-poverty tool - the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit (CTC)!
During the last week in August, members of Congress are traveling to your home state and district to find out what issues matter to you. The Earned Income Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit helps working families in your community keep more of what they earn to pay for things like childcare, groceries, and car repairs so they can get to work.
EITC brought $13.1 million dollars in federal refunds to San Diego families last year, through our program. This credit helps lower-wage working families keep more of what they earn. Research finds that the EITC encourages work, reduces poverty and leads to long-term gains in child health and academic success. If Congress doesn't act when it gets back to Washington, key provisions of these important tax credits will go away, and more than 50 million Americans, including 25 million children will feel the cut.
