The 2012 United Way Labor Participation Annual Food and Toy Distribution
Our amazing volunteers collected food and toys to give to needy families this holiday season. Qualcomm stadium was host to the two day volunteer event coordinated by our Labor Participation department.
Monday December 17th, we had volunteers at different stations set up in Qualcomm stadium compiling hundreds of bags of food to give to the families for holiday meals.
Tuesday December 18th was the big event, the actual distribution. Dozens of volunteers from United Way, unions, local businesses, and community partners were all at the ready to give out the food and toys.
As each family arrived, the holiday spirit was overwhelming; with children shouting “Merry Christmas” to the volunteers who were packing food into the trunks of the families’ cars. Volunteers kept up the good cheer even as the rain set in half way through the event!
The appreciation was contagious, as families picked up their bags of chicken with all the trimmings for a complete holiday meal, and, of course, toys for the children. The genuine caring power of the San Diego community was demonstrated at the event by all who participated to make huge impact this holiday season.
