1,000+ Books. Infinite Dreams. Last month, we team

1,000+ Books. Infinite Dreams. Last month, we teamed up with State Senator Akilah Weber Pierson, M.D. to bring the magic of reading to the students at Fay Elementary School in City Heights!

In honor of #NationalReadingMonth, TK through 5th-grade students went home with new books in both English and Spanish. Why does this matter? More than half of children in San Diego County aren’t reading at grade level by 4th grade. When we put books in hands and homes, we aren't just teaching kids to read, we’re unlocking their ability to learn, dream, and succeed for a lifetime.

A huge thank you to the partners who made this possible: Amazon, Penguin Random House, Barnes & Noble, HD Supply, Mattel, Exact Sciences, INDUS, Cal Coast Credit Union, Navy Federal Credit Union, Fifth Third Bank, Collins Aerospace, and SeaWorld San Diego (who provided a guest appearance from Shamu and Sydney the Shark).

Together, we are bridging the educational gap and ensuring every child in San Diego County has the chance to thrive.

The United Way of San Diego County Student Scholarship, presented by Women United, is now open! High school seniors at qualifying San Diego County high schools can apply for awards ranging from $2,000 to $5,000 to support their next step toward achieving their goals.*
